Facebook Experience

Did you know that Facebook defines itself as a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. EVEN FACEBOOK HAS A DEFINITION PEOPLE! I recently spoke with a woman who works at  a company called Niche Media in New York City as their Public Relations person. She asked what I study and if I have any experience, I proceeded to tell her I am studying public communications and I intern for a digital magazine running their social media including Facebook. Being a 20 year old I am sure one can only imagine the things I view on Facebook and each and every day I see something that completely dumbfounds me every time. I told this woman I wanted to delete my Facebook and her response to me was “that would be very contradicting and I really suggest you don’t do that.” It has gotten to the point in society where I can’t delete my own Facebook because it is detrimental to my career. Social media like Facebook is detrimental for communication because it has turned into a way of life. Companies advertise, people invite, people share, and people meet on Facebook. There are never ending opportunities for marketing, advertising, expressing, and communicating.

For this project I felt it I was very successful using Facebook. After reviewing my comments I saw that a lot people appreciated the businesses I posted and the information I provided them with. Facebook gave me the opportunity to not only provide a background on my companies but also be able to give a list of services and prices that they have to offer. When it comes to events that is one thing I was never fully able to grasp in the sense of creating them but this project actually helped me clear that up a bit. Being able to create an event online and be able to get a response as well is pretty unbelievable if you think about it, no more hand written invites in the mail. One thing I liked about this project was getting everyone’s feedback on my groups and events. I took everyone’s comments into consideration and will actually be able to use them for future endeavors with the company I work with now, most likely the ones I will work with in the future and for personal events as well.

All in all Facebook is an extremely convenient and quick way to contact people and do business. Along with all the professional benefits one may retrieve from Facebook there are also some guilty pleasures one might discover like that farm game everyone was addicted to a year or so ago. And I cannot lie I am a picture hoarder I have pictures from freshman year in high school on that thing! I wanted to post a picture of something I actually saw on Facebook, the constant weird that I see. It is a status posted by someone I went to high school with stating, “Lololol – reading The Satanic Bible.” My first and only response is… oh.
