The making of these videos were crucial to me. I
love to learn and the one thing I am most passionate about learning is editing
software’s. During this day and age students have access to some pretty
incredible software and those who don't take advantage are simply missing out,
that is obviously an opinion but I am sure many agree. So when I heard we were
all making self-portraits with iMovie I was very happy. However when any
student hears the words "group project" we all cringing in our seats.
To have to depend on other people for a good grade is something no one looks
forward to, if you do poorly on your own that is something you earned and most
people either accept that or use it to make themselves work harder.
So naturally when I heard
the words "group project" I cringed a bit, luckily in this random
placement I was placed with one person I already knew and one who I got to
know. Even though we all come with different software of our own, the three of
us really seemed to work well together. Working with Spencer and Charlie was
interesting it is not very often you are put into a group randomly and get
along with your partners. The three of us all clicked in a sense that there is
something off the beaten track about each of us that made us get a long. I know
that sounds corny but I don’t know about boys but girls have a terrible time
getting along so this was refreshing. As a group we didn't really
encounter any difficulties with our shooting aside from trying to think outside
the box. When it comes to thinking outside of the box I think that relates to
communicating a video to an audience in a productive matter. Although I
understand the concept of using video without text or still frames to
communicate a message I don’t believe that mixing the three would be a negative
thing. Time is a major factor as well, being able to have more time would
probably make it easier to have less stills and text to communicate a message.
Video can be very
effective in the sense that it can leave a mark in someone mind like a carving
in a table, its something most people wouldn’t forget. Like I said earlier the
access not only students have to such advanced technology anyone can find a
video in the click of second. (See what I did there, “click” of a second!)
Something that is currently sticking out in my mind is a commercial that has
really caught my attention lately. There is a chain of AT&T commercials
going around lately that are completely hysterical in my opinion. Every time I
hear this mans voice I am compelled to watch the entire video even up to the
text it leads to at the end. Comedy, women, money, and booze seem to be things
that really catch people’s eyes visually and while that is good for public
communications majors like myself it poorly reflects society.
Before I get into YouTube
and Vimeo I would like compare definitions. “YouTube
allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created
videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire
others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original
content creators and advertisers large and small.” “Vimeo was founded by a group
of filmmakers who wanted to share their creative work and personal moments from
their lives. As time went on, likeminded people discovered Vimeo and helped
build a supportive community of individuals with a wide range of passions.
Today, millions of people from all around the world enjoy Vimeo, and we’re
growing bigger every day. We hope this fun and friendly environment fuels your
own creativity and inspires you to contribute to Vimeo in the ways that mean
the most to you.” YouTube and Vimeo are alike in the sense that both websites
create an open community for people to upload, share and view videos. Both also
allow videos to be blocked because of offensive content. I believe both sites
give an equal opportunity for any one with an email to visually express himself
or herself or something they are passionate about. Personally I am new to the
Vimeo site so I took some time to look around and if you search the “project”
or similar words. With that search I found students use sites like Vimeo along
with YouTube to share schoolwork and also works that they have done on their
own after learning about these programs in class. Although I do not hear much
about Vimeo after researching the site it has all the same efficiencies as
YouTube. I assume the publicity just is not as successful as Youtubes.
This
project has enhanced my skills in editing video on the computer. Although every
editing system may cost a different amount of money or have different setting
they all basically run the same. While learning iMovie in this class I am also
learning audio mixing in another class while writing in another. I too this day
don’t know what I want to do but having background information in all these
fields is what every employer is looking for now a days. I appreciate the skills
I learn in all of these classes just like employers appreciate their employees
having these skills.
